It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Lucille "Lucy" Marie (Shoemaker) Burgess, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Lucy passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025, in the Bluebird Retirement Community while in the arms of her family.
Following high school, Lucy married her forever sweetheart, Joe Burgess, on June 15, 1956. As a testament to their love, they have joyfully spent the past 68 years together raising their family with the same love and compassion that brought them together. Professionally, Lucy had worked as a bookkeeper for the former Yauger Monuments in London and Forrest Trucking in West Jefferson. A faithful believer, Lucy was a long-time member of the London Church of Christ in Christian Union. She enjoyed shopping and playing piano while singing. A true matriarch, she was excellent in the kitchen with both cooking and baking. No matter what was on the menu, her family knew they wo
