BURGESS
Joe Vernon Burgess, a loving husband, patient father, adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, in the Bluebird Retirement Community, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 13, 1933, in Greenup Kentucky, he was a son of Curtis Burgess and Lydia (Skeens) Burgess. Joe met his forever sweetheart, Lucille "Lucy" Marie (Shoemaker) Burgess following high school. The two wed on June 15, 1956, and have since spent the past 68 years together until the time of her passing just nine days ago on February 10, 2025. Their love truly knew no bounds, and they ensured to raise their family with the same love and compassion that united them together. Professionally, Joe had worked as a corrections officer at the London Correctional Institution where he also taught carpentry.
